Olly has sailed a wide variety of cats and dinghies. Before buying his Shadow he sailed an F18 on the UK circuit, as well as a Contender.

"The Shadow offers me the same kind of speed and adrenaline as an F18, but without needing a crew............. It's so light and responsive that it feels more like helming a dinghy than a big, heavy, traditional cat!"

Chairman

David Brief

Tel:     +44 (0)207 6074749/ Mobile +44 (0)7801 716935

Sail Number: GBR 029

Club:    Grafham Water Sailing Club (Cambridgeshire)

David sailed a Hurricane 5.9 until he decided that it was just too heavy! He now enjoys the class racing in Grafham's growing Shadow fleet.

"I was looking for a true one design single hander which I could handle on land, right easily without help and was quick. That narrowed the choice down to one and it's huge fun to sail."

Reg won a Gold medal in the Tornado at the 1976 Olympic Games. For many years, Reg's Tornados were the best in the world and he designed and produced the Hurricane 5.9, one of the most successful One Design cat classes there is. His expertise in building good looking, strong boats is evident in the range of Swell Catamarans that he developed with Yves Loday. His factory in Essex also builds the range of Topper dinghies, as well as boats for other brands, making it one of the biggest small boat builders in the UK.

Yves also won an Olympic Gold medal in the Tornado, in 1992. He has designed a number of very successful cats and dinghies, including the Hawk F18, Dart 16, KL17, KL15.5, Laser eps and Funboat. Yves can make a Shadow go faster than anyone else and has amazed people with his performance at Eurocat, Carnac against many bigger cats. When you sail a Shadow, you see and feel the expertise and attention to detail that he put into the design.
